The complete verified list of NMC-recognised medical universities in Georgia. What approval means, how to confirm it, and how FMGE/NExT works — covered by people who graduated here.
NMC (National Medical Commission) is India’s apex regulatory body for medical education. If a foreign university is not on the NMC list, Indian graduates cannot sit FMGE or NExT — and cannot practice medicine in India.
All universities below are recognised by NMC India as of 2025. Fees are indicative ranges — confirm directly before enrolling. MedWizard partner universities are highlighted in gold.

NMC introduced the NExT exam in 2021 to replace FMGE. Which exam you sit depends entirely on when you enrolled. Both test the same clinical competencies.
After graduating from any NMC-listed Georgian university, here is the exact process to become a licensed doctor in India.
If you plan to work in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Kuwait, NMC approval is not what you need. GCC licensing is entirely separate — and Georgia is one of the strongest choices.
Every question we hear from parents and students about NMC recognition, FMGE, and career after Georgia MBBS — answered honestly.
Yes. Georgia has over 12 medical universities listed by NMC India as of 2025 — more than any other European country. TSMU, CIU, University of Georgia, New Vision University, Georgian-American University, European University, David Tvildiani Medical University, and others are all on the NMC recognised list. Graduates are eligible to appear for FMGE or NExT to practice in India.
Go to nmc.org.in → Foreign Medical Graduates → Recognised Foreign Medical Institutions. Search by country (Georgia) and university name. You will see the institution and the date from which it has been recognised. Always verify independently. If you are unsure, WhatsApp us the university name and we will verify on the live NMC portal for you.
FMGE is the existing licensing exam for students who enrolled before August 14, 2021. NExT replaces FMGE for students enrolling after that date. NExT is a two-step exam (theory + clinical skills). Passing either exam gives you NMC registration and the right to practice medicine in India. The requirement to attend an NMC-listed foreign university is the same for both.
No minimum NEET score is required by Georgian universities. You only need to have qualified NEET (passed the exam — any passing score is acceptable) plus PCB 50%+ in Class 12 (40% for SC/ST/OBC as per NMC guidelines). There is no score-gate for admission to Georgian medical universities. This is the key distinction from Indian government medical colleges where rank determines admission.
Yes, independently of NMC. Georgia MBBS degrees are recognised by DHA (Dubai), DOH (Abu Dhabi, formerly HAAD), SCFHS (Saudi Arabia), QCHP (Qatar), and MOH Kuwait. You do not need FMGE to work in the GCC — you sit the relevant GCC licensing exam directly after graduation. This makes Georgia MBBS uniquely powerful: it opens both India and all GCC countries.
4,221 students who studied in Georgia appeared for FMGE in a single exam cycle — the highest volume from any European country. The national FMGE pass rate is approximately 15–25% across all foreign medical graduates. Georgian university students who prepare specifically for FMGE (3–6 months dedicated prep post-graduation) consistently outperform this average. Strong clinical training and hospital infrastructure in Tbilisi are key factors.
No. FMGE or NExT is mandatory for all Indian citizens who completed MBBS from a foreign university and wish to practice in India. The exam cannot be bypassed. However, if you plan to work in the GCC, you do not need FMGE — GCC licensing is a separate process. Many Georgia MBBS graduates choose to work in the Gulf directly after graduation without sitting FMGE.
NMC approval is a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. To practice in India you need: (1) Graduation from an NMC-listed foreign university, (2) Passing FMGE or NExT, (3) Completing a 1-year internship in India at an NMC-recognized hospital, (4) Registration with your State Medical Council. All four steps are required. NMC approval ensures you are eligible to attempt Step 2.
NMC evaluates recognition based on status at time of enrollment and graduation. If a university loses recognition after you have already graduated, you may still be eligible to sit FMGE/NExT — but this is subject to NMC policy interpretation. The safest approach: choose an established, long-standing NMC-listed university like TSMU (listed since MCI era), CIU, or UoG with a consistent multi-year track record. MedWizard only places students in universities with stable, multi-year NMC recognition histories.
TSMU (Tbilisi State Medical University, founded 1918) has the longest track record as Georgia’s oldest and largest medical university. It produces the highest volume of FMGE-appearing graduates. CIU and University of Georgia are strong second and third choices with growing FMGE alumni volumes. All three MedWizard partner universities maintain strong clinical hospital affiliations in Tbilisi, which is directly correlated with better FMGE/NExT performance. Ask us for current pass rate data when you consult.
